EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

As musical educators, the members of I Tromboni are aware of the need to tailor educational programs to best suit their audience. We are sensitive to the differing educational needs and abilities of younger and older students alike and adjust accordingly. For example, younger students can learn all about the Composer's Toolbox, a section of the program where the building blocks of music (such as form, tempo, emotion, etc.) are explored and brought to a better understanding by all. Also, programs are available in either English or French, can be whatever length best fits your students and we have gladly incorporated students - even entire grade levels - into the performance of the program upon teachers' requests. Musically speaking, our educational programs are not entirely different from our concert programs since the goal of I Tromboni is to entertain, educate and bring great music-making to kids of all ages; be they 5 or 65. Feel free to download a copy of our study guide from the link above.

GOALS OF AN I TROMBONI EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM

An introduction to different styles and genres of music.

  • Students will gain an appreciation of the features which make one piece of music quite different from another. I Tromboni perform a varied program ranging from Bach to "The Simpsons".

Students learn how music can represent objects and ideas from the world around them.

  • Music is able to paint a picture and tell a story. Students will enjoy I Tromboni's presentation of repertoire like Vivaldi's Spring from the Four Seasons where different musical motives are shown to represent the sights and sounds of springtime (i.e. birds, brooks, lightning, etc.)

Entertainment.

  • Although they will gain insight and a further understanding of musical concepts, students will leave not saying how much they have learned but how much fun they have had. I Tromboni are internationally recognized as elite performers. Hearing Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee always seems to get their attention.

National pride and positive role models.

  • I Tromboni has members from all across Canada. The Team Canada of Trombones takes great pride in Canada and in being Canadian. Elements of the performance present positive ideas of being Canadian. Students will cheer as they hear their national anthem magically transformed into Hockey Night In Canada.

The physics of music and the trombone.

  • Students will learn how a brass instrument works and how sound is generated. They will also learn how the trombone is actually a unique family of many instruments that can make a wide variety of sounds by different types of manipulation and extended techniques.

Question and answer period.

  • We are constantly surprised by the useful and insightful questions posed to us by the students and teachers themselves. Every I Tromboni educational program has the option of a question and answer period during or after the performance.
